They give birth to their young in a nest, where they also take care of them. If you find blind chicks outside the nest, they cannot do without human care. However, if you find a whole nest with young, then do not touch them and leave as quickly as possible! Their mother is somewhere nearby and regularly, though not too often, nurses and cares for her young.
However, if you are sure that the nest has been destroyed or that the mother has perished, then hand the chicks over to the rescue station as quickly as possible. You can recognize an abandoned young hedgehog, marten or squirrel by the fact that it whistles confusedly and climbs outside the nest (looking for its mother).
